Why Iceland works for conferences
Iceland makes an impression without you having to work at it. Three and a half hours from Stockholm sits a landscape found nowhere else in Europe – volcanoes, glaciers and heat coming out of the ground. Reykjavik is small enough that the group stays in the middle of everything, and the drive out into the country is short. The conference part looks after itself; it's the surroundings people remember. Add reliable logistics and English everywhere, and Iceland is easier than it sounds.
Hotels and meeting venues in Iceland
Reykjavik is small enough that you stay in the middle of everything whichever hotel you pick. Radisson Blu 1919 occupies a former newspaper building in the centre, with venues in house and the harbour within walking distance. The Reykjavik EDITION is the higher-end choice – newly built by the old harbour, with views and a standard you notice. If you're heading into the landscape you still base yourselves in town; the distances are short.
Activities and dinners in Iceland
The landscape is the whole point of Iceland, and the programme builds on it. Whale watching leaves from Reykjavik's old harbour and takes a couple of hours – you're out on Faxaflói with a chance of humpbacks and white-beaked dolphins, and the group comes back with something to talk about. The Blue Lagoon sits near the airport and works best as a closer, the last day before flying home. Dinners are strong in Reykjavik, with fish and lamb the obvious starting points.
