    Season

Kiruna is the closest thing Sweden has to a destination that feels like somewhere else entirely. Northern lights and a hotel built from ice in winter, sun through the night in summer. An hour and a half from Stockholm. We handle travel, hotels, venues and programme.

Why Kiruna works for conferences

Kiruna is the domestic trip that does not feel domestic. An hour and a half from Stockholm, no passports and no currency, and the group lands somewhere that looks nothing like the rest of the country. Winter is the headline – northern lights, dog sleds and the Icehotel – but the summer version, with the sun up at midnight, surprises people who assume there is nothing to do once the snow goes. Both seasons need booking well ahead: capacity up here is genuinely limited.

Stay & venues

Hotels and meeting venues in Kiruna

Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi is the reason most groups come – rebuilt from the river ice every winter, with an ice bar and rooms at minus five. Nobody sleeps in the cold rooms for three nights, so groups combine an ice room with the warm accommodation on the same site. Camp Ripan in Kiruna itself has conference facilities, a spa and a restaurant working with local produce, and it is the practical base when the programme is meeting-heavy. Scandic Ferrum is the straightforward town option.

Activities

Activities and dinners in Kiruna

Dog sledding is the one that lands hardest – each person drives their own team, which is a genuine skill for about ten minutes and then just enjoyable. Northern lights are never guaranteed, so we plan two attempts rather than one and go by snowmobile or sled to get away from the town lights. Abisko is an hour west and statistically the clearest sky in the country. In summer the same landscape is hiking under a sun that never sets, and the group can be out at midnight.

FAQ

FAQ

What's included in a Way trip?

We handle the whole thing: travel, accommodation, meeting venue, activities, transfers and project management, with on-site support during the trip. Cold-weather clothing is included with the winter activities.

What does a conference in Kiruna cost?

Prices start at around SEK 7,500 per person and depend on group size, accommodation, season and how much programme you want. Winter costs more than summer, and Icehotel rooms are priced separately.

How do you get to Kiruna?

About an hour and a half by air from Stockholm, then fifteen minutes into town or twenty-five out to Jukkasjärvi. The night train is an alternative and takes around sixteen hours, which some groups treat as part of the experience.

Are the northern lights guaranteed?

No, and anyone who promises otherwise is selling something. The lights depend on solar activity and cloud cover. What we can do is plan more than one attempt, get the group away from the town lights, and build the rest of the programme so the trip stands on its own either way.

When is the best time for a conference in Kiruna?

December to March for northern lights, dog sledding and the Icehotel, with January and February the coldest and darkest. June to August for the midnight sun and hiking. April and November are the two months we would steer a group away from.
