Why Dublin works for conferences
Dublin solves the social side on its own. Two and a half hours by air, English everywhere, and a city where the group finds each other without you planning for it. The centre is compact, the hotels are strong and the conference facilities are built for international groups. Add Guinness, whiskey and a coastline twenty-five minutes away, and you have a destination that works particularly well when the point is to bring people together.
Hotels and meeting venues in Dublin
Clayton Hotel Burlington Road is the workhorse for larger groups – conference facilities built for it, and a short walk from the centre. The Marker sits on Grand Canal Dock with a rooftop bar and a more design-led feel, good when the trip needs to look like a reward. The Westbury is the traditional upscale choice, just off Grafton Street. Dublin fills up fast around rugby weekends and conference season, so the hotel decision usually sets the dates rather than the other way round.
Activities and dinners in Dublin
The Guinness Storehouse is the obvious one and it earns it – seven floors ending in a bar with a view over the whole city, and it works for any group size. The Jameson distillery does comparative tastings that turn into a competition without much prompting. For something outdoors, the cliff walk at Howth is twenty-five minutes by train and ends at a fishing village with good seafood. Evenings need no planning in Dublin, but we book the tables anyway.
